Panasonic Steps Up To The Plate With FAST SDXC Cards

If you have a entry to mid range SLR camera or a digital video camera, you probably have a handful of SDHC cards on hand. Looks like you’ll be replacing those soon thanks to Panasonic’s introduction of two new models. They will be releasing a 48GB and a 64GB Class 10SDXC cards capable of 22MB/s data transfer rates! WOW.

Using the 64GB card, you will be able to shoot over 8.5 hours of video in HA mode…that’s a whole lot of home video. These cards will use an exFAT file structure and will be able to support storage capacities in excess of 2TB.

GameBoy Advance Cartridge USB Flash Drives

The 8bitmemory shop has introduced a few USB flash drives housed in GameBoy Advance cartridges. They’re a bit on the expensive side, but they definitely have major keychain appeal. For $39.99, you’ll get a 4GB drive which have Metroid Fusion and a Mario vs Donkey Kong options. You could also get an 8GB flavor which will set you back $49.99.

No word on performance or durability…but I wouldn’t expect much

Apple To Free iPhone of Google in 2010?

There have been reports of Apple and Microsoft having discussions about replacing Google with Bing on the iPhone. At the moment, Google Maps and Google search are some things that make the iPhone great…. I wonder why they would so such a thing.

Last October, Apple purchased PlaceBase, which is a company that built an alternative to Google Maps. Apple is trying to match Google’s other free offerings and possibly even offering their own search engine in the future.  What triggered all this you ask?  This is just a pure guess, but Apple bought an advertising company called Quattro Wireless which specializes in mobile advertising. It sure would be nice to make a few extra bucks with these “free services”.

Possible Fix For the 3G Issue On The Nexus One?

So we’ve heard pleanty of negative feedback on the Nexus One over the past few weeks. People complaining about the 3G not working properly, HTC themselves saying the phone doesn’t support 3G(which is a complete lie), Google not having any phone support, the list goes on and on.

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Go to “wireless and networks”
  3. Look for the “mobile networks” option at the bottom
  4. The next screen will have a “network operators” section… tap it
  5. The phone will search for compatible GSM networks… wait for it to complete
  6. Assuming you are in the USA, you will see T-Mobile and/or AT&T and “select automatically”
  7. Choose the “Select Automatically” option
  8. Your phone will now say “registered on network”

Try it out and give us some feedback!

YouTube Introducing Live Sports Coverage

After live streaming a recent u2 concert with over 10 million viewers, Google has realized how easily they can get traffic with live broadcasts. Google has made an agreement with the Indian Premier League to stream 60 matches over the next season.

Only issue right now is that bandwidth is a killer and you can almost be certain that Google is going to find a “sponsor” of some sort to pick up the tab. Expect your live streams to have a few added “bonuses” in there. Even with their astonomical growth, they’re still losing some 470 million bucks a year(not Google as a whole, just the YouTube division).

DisplayPort 1.2 Kicks HDMI 1.4′s Butt

HDMI is cool and all, but the formal versino of DisplayPort 1.2 is plain awesome. You’ll get multi monitor support with one plug! How does it work??? Simple, you plug in your monitor to your graphics adapter and then you daisy chain the monitors :) . Naturally, the more monitors you connect, the lower the resolution you could push. For example, you could push four monitors @ 1920X1200, two monitors @ 2560X1600, or one display @ 3840X2400…….thats some serious rez.

DisplayPort 1.2 will also support Full HD resolutions @ 120Hz per 3D channel and could transfer 21.6Gbps. Oh, it could also support bidirectional USB information @ 720Mbps…..which brings up the coolest feature…

You could use DisplayPort as a USB type hub to power your webcam, memory sticks, speakers, etc. Theoretically speaking, the future of computing will only require one cable. Connect your printer, monitors, cameras, scanners, modems, etc using DisplayPort cables.

This last point is killer since devices connected by a DisplayPort 1.2 cable can work like ultra fast USB hubs powering integrated webcams, memory keys and speakers. Even Ethernet data transfer is possible over it.

Now for the icing on the cake, DisplayPort is “open” meaning companies don’t need to pay royalties to include it in their products. The existing DisplayPort 1.1 cables will already be “forward compatible” as well. No need to throw anything away.

Don’t Throw Away Those Water Bottles, Make Hangers!

I tend to drink water straight out of the tap, but for those of you sissies that insist on drinking bottled water ONLY, this is something to consider.

If you’re in a family flooded with sissies, you’re probably going through 40+ bottles a week(assuming you are all pretty UN-healthy). Instead of chucking out all those bottles, or recycling them and getting the nickel back, you could use them to make some pretty pimp hangers. You buy the “basic part” from ReThink. Then as you drink your bottles, you could screw two of them together to create a neat hanger.

Only issue here is that they’re probably not very small closet friendly.
