If you’re on the market for a camcorder, don’t spend your precious dollars just yet. Sony just debuted the DCR-SR88 camcorder with a 120GB hard drive capable of recording 91 hours of video. Yes, that is in LP mode which means the video quality isn’t as good as “SP”. The camera sports a 60X OPTICAL zoom and a 2000X digital zoom. Supposedly their extreme zooming technology is the clearest that it’s ever been, but I’m not really buying it.
If you’re not very fond of using a viewfinder, there is a 2.7 inch rotating photo LCD display which is indeed exceptional. Steady shot is a given and dropping the camera won’t make you lose all of your video with “HDD Smart Protection”.
The camera is relatively affordable at $399. Pre order it @ Amazon.
